R.I.P. V.W.

My much-taunted (by others) but much loved (by me) Golf has gone to the great big VW garage in the sky (care of 'Dave the Scrappie**'). Yes it only did a stone's throw to the gallon and the brakes, not content with just failing, had actually got into cahoots with the engine so that when they failed the engine would actually rev. Quite problematic, not to mention quite dangerous. All the same I'll miss the 'painters and decorators van' as it was nicknamed by my old place of work. Sigh. Oh, and I'll have to walk everywhere now...

** There's a lack of people nicknamed by their profession now. When I was a kid, locals we lived amoung included:
- John the Sweet (owned, and lived in, a sweet van)
- Dai Comm (owned the Commercial Inn, the village pub where he lived with his family: Jan Comm, Andrew Comm and Julia Comm)
- Peter the Leak (the local plumber)
- Dai the Bread (you can guess this one)

Might come back to this list another time. Very Dylan Thomas-esque, but it's true. In London Jones the Bootmaker is the closest but that's cheating.
